About
As an educator over the past 20 years, I have worked to engage others in learning mathematics. I want to empower students, teachers, and the broader community to see that mathematics is so much more than learning rote procedures. Communicating and working to understand the thinking of others enriches our personal understanding of mathematical content.
My personal education in the K-16 years consisted of learning mathematics through memorization. While I was successful, I saw little purpose in mathematics. Not until I became a 4th grade teacher and had the opportunity to really listen to the thinking of my students did my understanding of mathematics begin to change. I became intrigued by their thinking and was inspired to relearn mathematics. This journey has led me to meet many wonderful people, earn a doctorate in Teaching and Learning from The Ohio State University, and be involved in organizations such as the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics (OCTM) that are working to provide access to mathematics for ALL students!
